Bernard Widrow, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, Life IEEE Fellow, 1984 IEEE Centennial Medal, 2000 IEEE Millennium Medal. He was engaged in research of adaptive filters, learning processes, and artificial neural models. Together with M. E. Hoff, Jr., he invented the least mean squares (LMS) algorithm. He has continued working on adaptive signal processing, adaptive controls, and neural networks since that time. He was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 1995 and into the Silicon Valley Engineering Council Hall of Fame in 1999. He is the Past President and a member of the Governing Board of the International Neural Network Society. His current research focuses on adaptive signal processing, adaptive control systems, adaptive neural networks, human memory, and human-like memory for computers. Applic
